Why compress product images at all?
A photo straight off a modern phone weighs 3–8 MB. A product page carrying six of them is a slow page — and slow pages lose shoppers before the images ever paint, especially on cellular. Compression re-encodes the photo so it looks the same but travels light: the same packshot at a few hundred kilobytes instead of several megabytes.

How this compressor works
- Drop your images. They’re decoded right in the browser — nothing uploads.
- Each file is re-encoded at your chosen quality. In Auto mode, JPEGs stay JPEG and PNGs move to WebP, which keeps transparency while cutting the size dramatically.
- Compare and download. Every row shows the before and after sizes. If re-encoding would have made a file bigger, we keep your original — compression should never be a downgrade.
The optional 2048 px cap resizes the longest edge down to Shopify’s recommended product-image size while compressing — one pass, upload-ready.
Quality settings that hold up
- Product photos on white: quality 75–85. White backgrounds compress beautifully.
- Lifestyle scenes: quality 80–90 — busy textures show artifacts sooner.
- Graphics and screenshots: keep them PNG at the source, then let Auto mode move them to WebP here.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The compressor runs entirely in your browser using the canvas built into it. Your files never leave your device, nothing is stored, and the tool works offline once the page has loaded.
How much smaller will my images get?
Photos straight off a phone typically shrink by 70–90% at quality 80 with no visible difference. Images that were already compressed shrink less — and when re-encoding would make a file larger, the tool keeps your original instead.
What does the quality slider actually do?
It sets how aggressively the JPEG or WebP encoder discards detail your eye is unlikely to notice. 80 is a safe default for product photos; drop toward 60 for maximum savings, or raise it toward 95 for images with fine texture you want to protect.
Which format should I choose?
Auto is right for almost everyone: JPEGs stay JPEG, and PNGs convert to WebP, which keeps transparency at a fraction of the size. Pick a specific format only if the destination requires one.
Is there a file limit or a watermark?
No watermark, no signup, no counter. Up to 30 images at a time, 40 MB each — limits that exist only to keep your browser responsive.
